🔨 MHS Home Maintenance Class Builds Durable New Park Stand for Village Communication Board
Minerva, OH — The spirit of community partnership is on full display as students from Minerva High School's Home Maintenance Class successfully completed a real-world construction project for the Village of Minerva. Under the direction of instructor Mr. Leatherberry, the class designed and constructed a new, durable stand to support the village's communication board located at the local park.

The project began when Village officials approached the high school with the need for a new stand. The students embraced the opportunity, turning it into a valuable hands-on learning experience.

Collaborative Design & Real-World Skills
After reviewing the village’s requirements, students worked collaboratively to:

Create a custom design.

Develop a full materials list.

Construct the long-lasting structure using vinyl components.

"This project was a great example of how schools and communities can work together for mutual benefit," said Mr. Leatherberry. "Students gained real-world construction experience, and the village received a functional, long-lasting addition to their park."

The project allowed students to practice planning, fabrication, problem-solving, and teamwork—all essential skills emphasized within the Home Maintenance curriculum.

Village officials were highly appreciative of the partnership, praising the students' craftsmanship and professionalism.

This collaborative effort highlights Minerva High School’s continued commitment to engaging students in meaningful, service-oriented projects that strengthen community ties and provide authentic, practical learning experiences outside the classroom.

Minerva High School STEM Success!

We’re excited to highlight Year 4 STEM student Zek Wengerd for an outstanding real-world engineering accomplishment as part of his STEM Capstone Project!

Zek partnered with Summit Glove to take an existing globe from one of their displays, fully redesign it, and then 3D print the updated version using our school’s brand-new 5-color 3D printer. The result?- A professional-quality product created right here at MHS!

Guided by STEM teacher Mr. Leatherberry, Zek’s project is another example of how our program is:
🔹 Supporting local businesses
🔹 Strengthening community connections
🔹 Providing students with authentic, career-focused experiences
🔹 Offering real services beyond the school walls

Amazing work, Zek! Your innovation and professionalism make Minerva proud.

Minerva FFA Travels to the 98th National FFA Convention!

This past week, members of the Minerva FFA Chapter joined over 70,000 FFA members and guests in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo!

Day 1:
We kicked off our trip with a stop at Ohio State ATI’s Research and Development Center, where students explored several greenhouses and heard from Dr. Matthew D. Kleinhenz about what makes a great chipping potato! Students learned about specific gravity in potatoes and even discovered what causes pink eye in the crop.
From there, we traveled on to Indianapolis, completed convention registration, checked into our hotel, and wrapped up the evening with an Ella Langley concert!

Day 2:
Our second day started with the Opening Session of the National FFA Convention — an inspiring event full of energy, leadership, and blue jackets as far as the eye could see!
Students also attended workshops like:
Cultivating Connections — building communication skills and professional networks.
Getting Where You Want to Go — learning how to build resumes, interview skills, and career goals.
That evening, we joined other Ohio FFA members at Kelsey Farms for the annual Buckeye Bash, a night of fun, food, and fellowship!

Day 3:
We toured Lincoln Tech, where students explored hands-on programs in Diesel Mechanics, HVAC, Construction, and Medical Careers — an eye-opening look into technical education opportunities.
We ended the day with the exciting Three Hills Rodeo!

Day 4:
We closed out our trip by celebrating three of our own — Payton Walker, Leeann Walker, and Averie Thomas — as they received their American FFA Degree, the highest honor an FFA member can achieve!

What an incredible experience of learning, leadership, and lifelong memories.

Minerva High School Seniors Give Back During Fall Service Day

Approximately 60 seniors from Minerva High School’s Class of 2026 traded their classrooms for yards and rakes this Friday, November 7th, for the school's Senior Service Day.
Joined by Minerva Local staff and administration, the students dedicated their morning to assisting retired residents throughout the community with fall yard clean-up.
Student teams visited local homes to tackle a variety of yard services. Students helped with raking and bagging leaves, pulling weeds, and cleaning out flower and mulch beds to assist residents in preparing their properties for the upcoming winter. Students also assisted with other odd jobs as needed, offering a helping hand in any way possible.

The event was organized by Minerva High School Assistant Principal Tim Wolf, who coordinated the student volunteers and matched them with homes in the community.
Mr. Wolf shared his pride in the senior class and their enthusiastic participation.

"The Minerva High School Class of 2026 is very strong," Wolf said. "They have demonstrated great leadership, school spirit, and community pride. I am very proud of them!"

The annual event serves as a hands-on lesson in community service, fostering connections between the students and the residents they help, and reinforcing the school's commitment to giving back to the Minerva community. Go Lions!
